The Addams Family Voice Cast Revealed: Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz, And More

MGM has finally revealed the voice cast behind the upcoming animated adaptation of the Addams Family, one of the most iconic families that have graced American pop culture.

Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron will voice Morticia Addams, Allison Janney — also an Oscar winner — will voice arch nemesis Margaux Needler, Bette Midler will voice Grandmama, Chloë Grace Moretz will voice Wednesday Addams, Finn Wolfhard will voice Pugsley Addams, Nick Kroll will voice Uncle Fester, and Oscar Isaac will voice Gomez Addams, as previously rumored.

As Deadline reports, Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan, last seen directing Sausage Party, will serve as co-directors in this brand-new take on Charles Addams's classic cartoons, which first appeared in The New Yorker magazine. It has since been adapted into many forms, including a TV series in the 1960s, a cartoon in the 1970s, three films, and most recently, a Broadway production.

The new adaptation is written by Matt Lieberman and Pamela Pettler. It follows the macabre and kooky Addams family as they face off against a reality TV show host while also preparing for their extended family to arrive for a major celebration.

The film will be produced by Vernon, Gail Berman, and Alex Schwartz. Andrew Mittman, Kevin Miserocchi, and Joe Earley will serve as executive producers.

The Addams Family Animated Film Release Date

"Greg and I have always been a fan of the Addams Family in past versions, so when we set out to make this movie, we were excited to do something new," said Vernon.

The film hits theaters Oct. 11, 2019.

The Addams Family

The Addams Family began their life as a series of single-panel cartoons on The New Yorker. They were a satirical inversion of the ideal American family: an odd, wealthy, aristocratic group who delight in all things creepy. They also don't care, or are unaware, that other people find them disturbing or unusual.

With adaptations for TV shows, movies, and Broadway, The Addams Family has become a staple of pop culture and has had significant influence on American comics, cinema, and TV, particularly for the goth subgenre. Now with an animated movie serving as a new notch in the franchise's belt, the Addams Family's cultural impact will likely continue for the newer generation.
