This Special Nintendo 3DS Explains That Obscure Joke From ‘Rick And Morty’ — Yours For $1,000

Art truly mimics life, and life imitates art. That much is true for Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland, who apparently is taking an obscure joke from Season 2 and bringing it to life.

Specifically, it's the joke in the "Total Rickall" episode, in which a parasite begins infecting the family's memories. In one of the many flashbacks featured in the episode, Rick reveals a plan to mass-purchase limited edition Legend of Zelda Nintendo 3DS XL systems and sell them to collectors online for profit.

"We can flip these sons of bitches for $230 a piece, easy!... Hurry, hurry come with me!" Rick shouts as he bursts into the living room and explains his plan to the Smith family. The joke ends with Rick exclaiming, "Nintendo, give me free stuff!"

Rick And Morty Nintendo 3DS XL Now For Sale

It appears that's exactly what Roiland is doing. Interested collectors can now buy a limited edition Legend of Zelda Nintendo 3DS XL for $1,000, which comes with a Rick and Morty illustration on the top panel. Needless to say that's an exorbitant price for the original cost of the console — $200 — but it's easy to image fans would line up quickly.

In writing that joke, Roiland was pulling from real-life experiences. He did, in fact, purchased a lot of limited edition 3DS units and planned to sell them later on.

"My plan was to sell them off here and there over the years but I just had so many that I still have them," he said, as Vice reports. But feeling bad that he had purchased so many, he went out and bought 2DS systems with games and gave them all to a charity in Los Angeles.

"I became part of the problem that day. I became a scalper. CHA-CHING," said Roiland.

For now, Roiland is only selling one limited edition Legend of Zelda 3DS XL, but said he has more in stock. Someone on Tumblr who claims to be a friend of Roiland says the creator has "a guest room full of" them, so that means there's a lot more where that came from.

If you're interested in purchasing the signed console, Visit Witchsy to view the listing. Again, it costs $1,000.
