Electronic Arts officially unveiled Battlefield V, the latest entry in the popular first-person shooter series that brings players back to World War II.
Battlefield V will go down the same path as Call of Duty: World War II, which returned the franchise to its roots. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, meanwhile, was also recently unveiled with an Oct. 12 release date. How will Battlefield V differentiate itself from the other games in the first-person shooter genre?
'Battlefield V' Trailer And Gameplay
The recently released official reveal trailer for Battlefield V showed the intense close-up action that has become an expectation from entries in the franchise. Battlefield V, however, will not be just a simple upgrade to its predecessor, Battlefield 1.
Battlefield V will be more "physical and kinetic," said Daniel Berlin, the design director for developer DICE. The gameplay will be based on real-world combat, with players to be immersed in very realistic war situations.
One of the examples that were given was healing in the warzone. In past Battlefield games, a medic may drop a medkit, and players will heal up by standing in the aura of the medkit, but in Battlefield V, the medic will need to physically approach the wounded player and give him a morphine shot. If a teammate is bleeding out, instead of reviving him out in the open, players can drag their teammate to a safe location and revive them there, which is a situation that may happen in the real world.
Battlefield V also emphasizes the importance of playing in a squad, with success in the game linked to the effectiveness of communication between squad members. There will also be incentives and rewards when playing as a team, and even some for assuming the role of squad leader.
'Battlefield V' Release Date And Preorder Bonuses
The Battlefield V release date is set for Oct. 19, just a week after Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Players who are excited for the game, however, are now able to send in preorders and enjoy the bonuses.
A preorder for the Battlefield V Standard Edition enables early access to the game's open beta, special assignments that offer rewards to players, a choice from one of eight Special Soldier Sets, and immediate access to five Battlefield 1 weapons.
A preorder for the Battlefield V Deluxe Edition, meanwhile, adds to the Standard Edition bonuses by promising early access to Battlefield V, so you can start playing on Oct. 16 while everybody else gains access on Oct. 19. Players will also receive five sets of paratrooper outfits, 20 weekly items with airlift, and more special assignments.
