Over the last few months, Dropbox, fresh off going public, has rolled out a bunch of improvements that make using its cloud storage service easier and more efficient.
Now, a new set of improvements are due, both for iOS and Android versions of the app. The new features, according to the company, will help users stay in sync with their teams especially when they're on the go. In other words, these latest improvements are mostly geared for Business accounts, but there's no reason standard users can't find them useful.
Dropbox Gets New Features
The first change is the addition of something called file activity, which basically keeps a record of people who have viewed, edited, or shared files from a user's Dropbox account. If someone shares a certain file, it's also possible to view who they sent it to. This feature is already available on the web version of Dropbox, but this marks the first time it's being implemented into mobile.
Improved Comments System
On iOS, Dropbox has improved its commenting system to make it easier for users to respond to and view comments. In the file preview screen, there's now a text box at the bottom of the screen that will automatically show up by default, and typing on it will allow the user to leave a comment right then and there, instead of being directed to a separate screen. In addition, sharing files will now be much easier, but it's not exactly clear how.
Gallery View
Lastly, Dropbox for iOS is getting a "gallery view" option, which is pretty self-explanatory. With this enabled, files will be displayed in the same manner as that on apps such as Google Photos, making it easier to search through mounds upon mounds of files.
Sure, the changes stated above aren't Earth-shattering improvements, but collectively, they do make the overall user experience a little better and more efficient. Dropbox's goal is to make it easier to find whatever a user is looking for, plus improve team collaboration, and these features will certainly help in those regards.
Dropbox App
The updated Dropbox is available to download now for iOS and Android. File activity isn't available on Android yet, it should be noted, though as Engadget says it should arrive shortly.
