The Huawei MateBook X Pro has arrived in the United States, which might just blow other Ultrabooks in the market out of the water.
MateBook X Pro Competes With High-End Laptops
The MateBook X Pro's premium design and specifications put it at direct competition with some of the most popular laptops in the western shores. Huawei touts it as "The Best Laptop You've Never Heard Of."
"Reflecting Huawei's premium and sleek design aesthetic, every curve and every port of the Huawei MateBook X Pro is intentional," said the company.
"Made of aluminum alloy that is typically used in aviation along with a sophisticated sandblasting finish, it is 0.57 inches thin and weighs just 2.93 pounds - making the Huawei MateBook X Pro light, portable yet durable."
The outside looks and feels premium, which then opens up to show the 13.9-inch nearly bezel-less display in a 13-inch lid. Huawei claims that the 3K touch screen features a 91 percent screen-to-body ratio, a first in the industry.
Perhaps the most notable feature, however, is the camera. It hides under what looks like to be a key in the keyboard that pops up only when the user wants to use it. The feature made news across the globe amid memes that make fun of the rumors about the government spying on the citizens through their laptop cameras.
MateBook X Pro Specs, Price, And Availability
Under the hood, the MateBook X Pro's specifications do not disappoint. The base model comes with an eighth-generation Intel Core i5-8250U processor with integrated graphics, an 8 GB RAM, and 256 GB NVMe SSD.
The powerhouse variant has an Intel Core i7-8550U processor with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB NVMe SSD. Its dedicated GPU Nvidia MX 150 should be able to handle casual games.
Another interesting feature of the Huawei Ultrabook is the fingerprint sensor, which borrows the technology from the Chinese company's smartphones. It integrates the sensor with the power button, allowing users to start and access their laptops in 7.9 seconds.
The MateBook X Pro has USB-C, Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.0, and 3.5 mm headphone ports. The Second Generation Dolby Atmos® Sound System provides an immersive 3D experience, while a 57.4 Wh battery powers the laptop for 14 to 15 hours, depending on usage.
The base MateBook X Pro model retails in the United States for $1,200 with a Space Gray color, while the higher-specced model is at $1,500 with Space Gray and Mystic Silver color options. Compared to its pricing in other markets, it is obvious that Huawei is pushing an aggressive stance against Apple and Microsoft products, including the expensive MacBook Pro.
The Huawei MateBook X Pro is now available at Newegg, Amazon, and Microsoft Store. It is set to land on the physical shelves of Microsoft on May 23.
