Sony shrinks down its 13.3-inch Digital Paper to 10.3 inches with some feature enhancements and the new Digital Paper Mobile Application.
New Digital Paper Is The Same E-Ink Tablet
Sony is releasing its Digital Paper E-Ink tablet in a new size, making it more portable but retaining the benefits of going paperless. With a smaller size, the company hopes to target a wider audience of students and professionals.
"Now, with a choice of two models, more people can experience what we refer to as 'paper perfected,' enjoying the easy readability of the glare-free screen and precision handwriting associated with the paper-like look and feel of Digital Paper," said Bob Nell, director of Digital Paper, in an official statement.
The new 10.3-inch variant still has the same capabilities of its larger sibling, including letting users annotate documents, read books, and set up schedules on their calendars. The electronic notepad aims to replace physical notebooks and books, so it helps that it has trimmed down closer to the size of these materials.
New Features Enrich Users' Experience
Along with the release of the new 10.3-inch model, Sony is also releasing new feature enhancements with the Digital Paper Mobile Application as the highlight. The app will be available on Android and iOS and will serve as a companion app for easy transfers of documents.
The Digital Paper will also give users the ability to display the content of the tablet to a projector via PC or Mac. Users will also be able to take screen captures, page jump, pan and zoom, and rotate pages automatically among others.
These new features will be available to both the 10.3- and 13.3-inch Digital Paper variants. The update will be available to download on May 30.
10.3-Inch Digital Paper Specs And Availability
The glare-free screen of both Digital Paper models are similar to the Kindle devices, which give users a similar experience to reading a paper document on screen. The E-Ink tablet, however, comes with a stylus that provides a similar feeling to writing with a pen or pencil, depending on which of the two provided stylus tips is used.
The 10.3-inch variant is only 8.5 ounces light and the 13.3-inch is at 12.3 ounces while both are 0.23 inches thick. Annotations and notes are saved automatically to the 11 GB usable storage, and the battery runs up to three weeks without the use of Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
The 10.3-inch Digital Paper is now available for preorders at $600 while the 13.3-inch model is priced $700. The exact release date is yet to be announced. Those who are interested can head to Sony's website for information on where to buy Digital Paper.
