The reveal of the new crossguard lightsaber in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer has been divisive to say the least.
Some fans love it. Some fans hate it. Some fans say it would never work.
Other fans (like Stephen Colbert) point out how the crossguard lightsaber makes perfect sense.
Needless to say, this is just the beginning. So what happens when the mysterious Kylo Ren unknowingly sets off a lightsaber arms race with his new-fangled sith weaponry? Well, the results aren't pretty, as shown in this animated short from happyhour on YouTube.
Lightsaber flails. Lightsaber hula-hoops. Lightsaber nunchucks. Lightsaber everything! The sad part is that some of those don't even sound that far-fetched. We've already seen another new type of lightsaber on the Star Wars: Rebels television show. On Rebels, the sith Inquisitor uses a double-bladed spinning lightsaber for umm...walking at people menacingly?
There have even been glimpses at concept art for the show that depict a lightsber gun. No, it doesn't shoot actual lightsabers, but is rather a blaster and lightsaber in one.
With all of that in mind, do lightsaber nunchucks really sound that out of the question?
