Google Wifi's Network Check Can Now Tell You Your Devices' Connection Strength

Google Wifi is getting even better. Its Network Check technology will now let users test the network connection of each of their devices.

New Google Wifi Network Check Update

Google Wifi launched Network Check, a new tool to check the quality of the connection of the users' phone or tablet to the Wi-Fi network as they roam around the house. It becomes useful in searching for dead spots in the house, but it is not that useful for troubleshooting a certain device.

Once the update lands, users will be able to do just that. They will be able to see how a device is performing on their Wi-Fi network. With the Google Wifi app, they can check the connection of their smart TV, outdoor security camera, and other devices in the home that uses Wi-Fi.

"In the past month alone, we saw an average of 18 connected devices on each Google Wifi network, globally," said Google.

"With so many devices on your network, we want to make sure you have a way to know each device has the best connection possible, and that your home Wi-Fi is doing its job."

Users can then implement an appropriate solution based on the measurements. They can then move the device closer to an access point or move the router itself to change its coverage. If, for example, a device is still having problems in spite of having a good connection, then the user will know that the problem might lie in the device itself.

The Google Wifi update is arriving globally in the coming weeks.

What Is Google Wifi?

Google Wifi is a home network system that aims to replace the traditional Wi-Fi router. Its main idea is to provide multiple devices serving as access points to improve the coverage in a home, which is especially useful in bigger homes with multiple dead spots. The cylindrical devices link to each other to form a mesh network, which can cover up to 4,500 square feet, according to Google.

Google Wifi also comes with an Android or iOS app that enables users to configure the network and change the settings, such as prioritizing bandwidth for a certain device or pause the Wi-Fi network.

Its latest update has also brought Site Blocking, which lets parents control the websites that their children are visiting. It can block access to over 8 million websites not friendly for kids on a specific device, so adults can still access these websites.

Google Wifi also offers a host of family controls along with other perks.
