There's Some Good And Bad News For Girl Scout Cookie Fans

'Tis the best time of the year. It's Girl Scout cookie season.

While pre-orders start on Monday through a new online "digital cookie" platform, we have some good and bad news regarding this year's cookies.

The bad news? Cookie-lovers will have to pay an extra dollar for their favorite boxed snacks. However, only those living in Los Angeles will be effected by the price increase, so the rest of America can breathe a sigh of relief. Don't worry LA, it's only $1 more.

But the bad news doesn't end there. Dulce de Leche and Thank You Berry Much cookies are no longer available to order.

The good news? In place of the discontinued cookies, two new flavors have been introduced this year, including a gluten-free cookie. Toffee-tastic cookies are butter-based and have crunchy pieces of toffee and are of course, gluten-free. The other new cookie is called Rah-Rah Raisins, which include whole grain oats, raisins and Greek yogurt chunks.

The other good news, as mentioned above, is that you no longer have to wait for the adorable girls in brown vests to come knocking at your door. The new digital platform will allow Girl Scout cookie connoisseurs to order boxes year round.

"It is a national digital platform that lets girls take cookie orders to customers online through a unique application on their phone," says Meghan Cochrane, director of public relations and marketing for the Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama. "We're really excited about that because this is really the first year that girls can send out emails to their family members that live in a different state and they can get cookies sent to them."

But don't worry, the girls will continue to come knocking door-to door as well. Pre-orders will be delivered directly from the distributors in the beginning of January.

The new gluten-free cookie will only be available for a limited time, but other classic favorite like Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Patties (now called Tagalongs), Samoas, Do-si-dos and Trefoils are here to stay.
