CES is right around the corner, with many companies set to show off their latest and greatest products at the January event in Las Vegas.
One tech player very likely to steal the show is Sony, which has really hyped its appearance at the event.
Sony recently posted a teaser trailer offering a look at a few things the company might show off. The trailer is titled "Welcome to the New World," and alludes to a new flagship smartphone.
The first thing to note is the colorful and vivid imagery in the trailer, suggesting perhaps it will boast an even more powerful camera than before. Maybe the device will even come with software enabling it to perform more advanced video and photo editing. It shows a chameleon as well, perhaps alluding to a new Snapdragon processor. We also see an extremely thin device being picked up, likely to be the Sony Xperia Z4, as well as a girl eating a lollipop, suggesting that the device will include the newest version of Android, Android 5.0 Lollipop.
The number 5 is also alluded to quite a bit, suggesting the company might skip the Z4 and go straight to the Z5. It's not completely unlikely, especially considering the fact that the number 4 is considered to be unlucky in Japan, where the company is based.
While some of these so-called suggestions might be a long shot, there is no doubt the company will show off some kind of new smartphone at CES 2015. Not only that, but it will probably be Sony's new flagship device. Sony, unlike many other companies, has adopted a six-month refresh cycle for its flagship smartphones, with the company about due for a new one. Is it likely to be as innovative and mind-blowing as Sony seems to suggest? Well, probably not, but one can dream.
Other suggestions are the teaser actually alludes to a new Android TV device. Sony is confirmed to be a company that will launch a new Android TV device in 2015, with CES being a great platform for that launch to take place. This Android TV would also fall in line with the Lollipop allusion, considering the fact Android TV is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. If it does turn out to be a TV, it will be en extremely thin one, maybe even so thin that you will want to stroke it like the person in the opening sequences of the video.
Whether Sony releases a new smartphone, a new Android TV, both, or neither, the company is certainly one to keep an eye on at CES 2015.
