A new Samsung smartphone with model number SM-G8750 made its way to TENAA and the FCC, and it's believed to launch soon as the Galaxy S8 Lite.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is a high-end smartphone and although it's no longer the latest flagship from the company, it may still be too expensive for some. The upcoming Galaxy S8 Lite could be a worthy alternative at a more budget-friendly price point.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Lite Coming Soon?
The FCC listings typically don't reveal much in terms of specs and this one is no different, but the TENAA listing is more generous with spec details. Since the device received the necessary certification from both agencies, it's expected to launch in the United States and in China.
The TENAA listing also includes photos of the smartphone, and it looks nearly identical to the existing Galaxy S8, except for the rear-mounted heart rate monitor which is absent in the Lite version. Other than that, the Galaxy S8 Lite has the same glass-and-metal construction, a sleek Infinity Display, a Bixby button, and the same form factor as the Galaxy S8.
Galaxy S8 Lite Specs
TENAA reveals the core specifications of the handset and it looks like it will still be quite powerful, although it will pack slightly lower specs than the Galaxy S8. More specifically, the Galaxy S8 Lite will apparently feature a 5.8-inch Infinity Display with a resolution of 2,220 x 1,080, lower than the Galaxy S8's.
In the camera department, the Galaxy S8 Lite has a higher pixel count on the back, sporting a 16-megapixel rear camera instead of the 12-megapixel sensor of the Galaxy S8. Pixel count is not everything, however, and the Galaxy S8's camera is more advanced.
The 16-mgapixel camera of the Galaxy S8 Lite will likely be the same or very similar to that of Galaxy A-series smartphones that offer mid-range specs on a budget. On the front, the Galaxy S8 Lite could feature an 8-megapixel selfie cam.
Under the hood, the Galaxy S8 Lite will apparently have an octa-core processor clocked at 1.9 GHz or 2.2 GHz, but the exact model of the chipset is unspecified. The clock speeds don't match the Galaxy S8, however, so it's probably a different chipset.
Other specs include 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of native storage space expandable via microSD, an iris scanner, and a 3,000 mAh battery with fast-charging support via USB Type-C.
On the software side, the Galaxy S8 Lite is listed on TENAA with Android 8.0 Oreo on board out of the box, which indicates that it could launch before Samsung releases Android 8.1 Oreo to its handsets.
Galaxy S8 Lite Release
Based on recent reports, the Galaxy S8 Lite could debut on May 21 in China, but nothing is confirmed at this point. The OnePlus 6 is launching on May 16 with high-end specs and likely an affordable price point, and the Galaxy S8 Lite could be Samsung's answer to that.
No additional information is available for now, but the FCC and TENAA listings suggest an imminent debut.
