Google rolls out the redesigned Google News, which now uses artificial intelligence to aggregate and deliver news from all over the world.
Revamped Google News Uses AI Technology
The original Google News launched 15 years ago was a simple platform that organizes articles based on topic and category, allowing users to view a collection of news and multiple sources of the same topic.
"The reimagined Google News uses a new set of AI techniques to take a constant flow of information as it hits the web, analyze it in real time and organize it into storylines," wrote Google.
"At its core, this technology lets us synthesize information and put it together in a way that helps you make sense of what's happening, and what the impact or reaction has been."
Aside from the new format and design, the new Google News still lets users browse by category, including the latest headlines.
New Google News Desktop And Mobile Features
The AI element can be seen largely in the Full Coverage feature, providing various reports about a certain story. It shows videos related to the story, social commentary, FAQs, and the timeline, which delivers related news prior to the latest coverage all in one place.
Google added that Full Coverage is not personalized. Everyone sees the same headlines from the same trusted sources so that everyone has access to the same information. Google claimed that this should contribute to a more productive discussion about a certain topic.
For a personalized experience, the For You section mixes the local news, important headlines, and topics the user is interested in. The app also provides controls that let users choose to see more or less of a publisher or story.
The new visual format newscast also uses natural language understanding to bring users a collection of articles, quotes, and videos on a single topic. This provides enough information to users to let them decide whether to go deeper into Full Coverage.
The app also contains the Newsstand, which displays publishers and allows users to subscribe to them. The Subscribe with Google should take care of the payment, which will then give users access to the publisher on any platform, including Google Search and the publisher's website.
That said, the revamped Google News is replacing the Google Play Newsstand and the Google News & Weather apps. The search engine company has started rolling out the update, and it should be available to everyone in 127 countries on iOS, Android, and desktop the following week.
