Jordan Peele's next project after Get Out, which earned him an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay this year, is called "Us," the director just teased on his Twitter account.
The film's potential cast boasts A-listers, including Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o, Emmy-winning actress Elisabeth Moss, and newcomer Winston Duke, who last appeared in Black Panther as M'Baku.
Jordan Peele's Teases Next Film, 'Us'
Peele has revealed the film's title via a Twitter post, accompanied by a poster showing what appears to be two ink smudges in the shape of heads. He did not discuss any plot details. Nyong'o and Moss are possibly going to play the smudgy figures in the poster, but aside from that, it's not clear how Peele plans to follow up his uproarious debut Get Out.
Us is the initial project under Peele's first-look deal with Universal Pictures, Variety reports. Get Out, Peele's debut as a film director, took the number 1 spot at the domestic box office when it premiered last February. As of writing, the film has grossed over $255 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. It reaped near-unanimous critical acclaim for its rich storytelling and delicate handling of racial discrimination in modern America. The film ended up earning four Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Actor for Daniel Kaluuya.
Us Plot And Release Date
Universal has scheduled the film to premiere on March 15, 2019. Beyond that, little is known about Peele's sophomore film, but here's what the director said in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter in February:
"One thing I know is that this is genre; and playing around with the thriller, horror, action, fun genre of intrigue is my favorite. That's my sweet spot. So I think tonally it should resemble Get Out. That said, I want to make a completely different movie. I want to address something different than race in the next one."
