WhatsApp Incorporates Facebook, Instagram Video Features Into Latest iOS Update

WhatsApp just updated its iOS software. The messenger app is expected to have several exclusive features for Apple customers.

Picture In Picture

WhatsApp users can now access video links from both Facebook and Instagram in version 2.18.51. In previous versions, users had to leave to the messenger app to watch videos and then come back. The new software update allows users to remain on the app, watch videos, and comment if they want to.

The new feature is due to a function called picture in picture mode. PIP also allows users to move the video around the iPhone screen. Users can play and pause the video as well. Technology insiders said that users could access other chat windows to speak with their group while the video is playing.

Power To The Group Administrator

Another feature of the update involves the group administrator position. First, the group administrator can eliminate group members from having certain administrative rights. Group leaders only have to go to the "Group Info" menu, tap the person's name, and then hit "Dismiss as Admin." Secondly, the administrator can also change the group's subject, icon, and description in "Group Settings."

More Features Coming Soon

WhatsApp's parent company, Facebook, revealed that there would be more new features coming soon. At Facebook's F8 Developers Conference, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that group video chat would roll out at some point. Zuckerberg revealed that up to four people could participate in a video conference at the same time. He also added that WhatsApp customers would receive stickers from third-party developers in the future.

On April 30, WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum published on his Facebook page that he would be leaving the social media company. Koum wrote that he felt it was time to move on from the company. He stated that he would be turning his attention to his hobbies. Koum is also expected to step down from Facebook's board of directors. Company insiders stated that the WhatsApp co-founder clashed with upper management on several issues such as charging users and protecting customers' privacy.

Meanwhile, police in South Wales, England caught a drug dealer by using a photo of his fingerprint from WhatsApp. Before the arrest was made, Law enforcement officials were only able to find parts of the middle and bottom of the finger and had a hard time finding the criminal. Eventually, they turned to social media where they were able to identify the suspect through photograph enhancement correctly.

In March, the messaging service extended the Delete for Everyone feature. The program allowed users an hour, 8 minutes, and 16 seconds to delete a message that they accidentally sent to other people. When it was introduced in October 2017, users reported some problems with the feature that included the accidental recipients seeing a "This message was deleted" notification when they opened the message.
