Case makers often share valuable details about upcoming devices, and this time it looks like the iPhone SE 2 will hit the scene next month and will lose the headphone jack.
Apple is the one who started the whole no-headphone-jack trend and several other OEMs followed suit, but the iPhone SE from 2016 was unaffected. The same cannot be said of its successor, if the latest leak turns out to be accurate.
iPhone SE 2 Release
Citing information from a case manufacturer source, Japanese blog Macotakara, which has a good track record when it comes to the accuracy of its leaks, has released some new details regarding the purported iPhone SE 2.
Apple has an event scheduled for June 4, as WWDC 2018 kicks off, but the source that spoke to Macotakara believes that the iPhone SE 2 will make its debut sooner than that.
While flagship iPhones typically make their debut in the fall, at a separate event, the iPhone SE launched in spring 2016 without a pompous event and the same strategy could apply to its successor.
The publication claims the iPhone SE 2 will launch in May, which would fall in line with a recent spotting at European regulatory agency EEC. The agency typically releases information about upcoming devices days or weeks before they make their official debut, so a May release for the iPhone SE 2 would make sense.
iPhone SE 2 Rumored Specs
The report further notes that the iPhone SE 2 will feature the same 4-inch display as its predecessor, as well as the same design reminiscent of the iPhone 5. Under the hood, it could pack either an A9 or an A10 chip, with Apple Pay support via NFC. Other recent reports hinted at an A10 chip as the one fueling the iPhone 7.
Most intriguingly, the case manufacturer claims that the iPhone SE 2 will lose the headphone jack, which seems odd if it retains the same design and dimensions of its predecessor. If this turns out to be true, however, it could translate to better water resistance for the smartphone.
Lastly, the case maker speculates that the iPhone SE 2 could support wireless charging, but that seems uncertain for now. Reputed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently said wireless charging is unlikely for the next iPhone SE, but a boost in performance should be in the cards.
It's all based on leaks and rumors at this point, but if the iPhone SE 2 will indeed make its debut next month, more information should become available soon enough straight from the source. Until then, take all reports with a grain of salt.
