In an outlandishly expensive purchase, popular video game Minecraft's creator Markus "Notch" Persson has snapped up one of the most desirable mansions in Beverly Hills for $70 million.
The billionaire may have paid through his nose for the 23,000 square foot mansion in the Trousdale Estates neighborhood in Beverly Hills (which went up for sale in August), but still got a good deal as the initial asking price was $85 million.
Post a bidding battle where he emerged victorious with the $70 million offer, Persson closed the deal within six days.
"Marcus fell in love with the house, its sleek contemporary design and its spectacular panoramic views that sweep from downtown L.A. to the Pacific Ocean," said Katia De Los Reyes, from the John Aaroe Group's Sherman Oaks office. "The fact that the house also was completely furnished in such great style was another major selling point for him."
The 35-year old Swede sold his company Mojang AB to Microsoft earlier in September this year for a whopping $2.5 billion.
The 8-bedroom 15-bath mansion he has purchased was also being eyed by the "it" couple of Hollywood (who Forbes revealed were the richest couple in 2013) - Jay Z and Beyonce. The $70 million price paid by Persson for the mansion makes it the highest ever for any home in the Beverly Hills.
The mansion offers a panoramic view of Los Angeles and touts an automated curved glass door in the living area which is 54 feet long. The living area opens to an infinity pool that comes equipped with - hold your breath - fountains that can be controlled via an iPad.
The mansion is a haven for opulence and boasts a dining table that can not only seat 24 people, but also has place settings worth $3700 each designed by Roberto Cavalli. The living area has chairs designed by Bentley Motors and the 10 chairs cost a whopping $56,000 each!
There's more. Persson's new pad also has a candy room worth $200,000, a wall made of onyx and caramel, a tiered screening room for 18 people, tequila and vodka bars and 90-inch tall HD TVs - did we mention that not one but three which "bring panoramic views of Los Angeles from the roof into the down stairs lounge." The mansion also has 15 bathrooms each fitted with a Neorest toilet worth $5,600 each.
Persson tweeted a picture of himself sitting in the candyroom with his feet up.
