Vizio's 2018 TVs Are Brighter And More Colorful Than Ever Before

The battle to earn the right to grace a household's entertainment suite continues as Vizio throws its newest models with enhanced dimming features built-in.

While the technology can be found on most premium-tier TVs from rivals such as Sony, Samsung, LG, and even TCL, the American manufacturer flaunts 19 new models for 2018 with full array local dimming (FALD) features available on 13 variants from the catalog. Analysts quickly noted that the competition revealed no more than six options with the display-enhancing feature on board this year. Additionally, these cost a lot more than what the latter offers for consumers.

The Thing About FALD

Consumers who know a thing or two about the cutting-edge technology that normally comes with the latest models should be familiar with picture-enhancement features. Currently, the catchphrase seems to be about color-accuracy and brightness, which can be attributed to the new tech that helps modern televisions deliver better picture quality.

Instead of the usual setup wherein lighting on older-generation devices are usually positioned on the edges, FALD technology helps the TV output better colors and deeper blacks, which are apparently important to multimedia enthusiasts. Normally, brands that come with the technology are harder on the wallet than regular options.

Showcasing The Big Guns

Vizio apparently impresses most industry experts, as a lot of its cost-friendly models come with FALD. However, the company does not seem to have any plans to hold back this year when it unveiled its flagship model, the P-series Quantum, a 65-inch TV with Quantum Dot technology capable of up to 2,000 nits of brightness and comes with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Meanwhile, other models under its P-series lineup use Ultra Color Spectrum technology instead, but the company confirms that Dolby Vision and HDR10 are available even on its M-series and E-series lineup. Even though the manufacturer makes bold claims as to the capabilities of the majority of its 2018 catalog, experts still find it hard to believe that it can surpass the quality delivered by OLED TVs from LG and Sony.

M-Series Show And Tell

To accompany the P-series is Vizio's upper midrange M-series catalog that also features FALD technology. The former will be available in 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch variants, while the latter arrives in 55-inch, 65-inch, and 70-inch options. Unlike its premium siblings, the latter has fewer local dimming zones and a maximum brightness of 600 nits. Refresh rate likewise takes a hit with a reduction to 60Hz.

Price And Availability

Vizio confirmed that all of its 2018 lineup of TVs are available now via their website. Retailers should have demo units available soon. Consumers can expect a price range of $900 to $2,500 for the P-series and $700 to $1,500 for the M-series.
