Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT) RED editions to help battle HIV/AIDS.
The company has been releasing (PRODUCT) RED editions of its popular iPhones in collaboration with an organization called (RED), which aims to raise awareness and medication or funds to help counter the spread of HIV/ AIDS in Africa.
Apple (PRODUCT) RED
Last year, Apple launched the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (PRODUCT) RED editions and raised plenty of interest worldwide. Prior to that, Apple sold red versions of other products such as iPods, but the iPhone 7 was the first smartphone series to get the treatment.
Not only do these smartphones come in a bright red color, but each device sold contributed to the Global Fund for HIV and AIDS, aiming to support medical care and education to affected individuals.
"Apple is the world's largest corporate donor to the Global Fund, contributing more than $130 million as part of its partnership with (RED)," Deborah Dugan, (RED) CEO, said last year at the launch of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (PRODUCT) RED Editions.
iPhone 8 And iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT) RED
According to a Virgin Mobile internal memo obtained by Apple-centric publication MacRumors, Apple plans to announce iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT) RED Editions on Monday, April 9.
The red smartphone models will reportedly go up for preorder initially, but it remains unclear for now just when they will actually go on sale. If Apple does indeed make an official announcement later, it will most likely announce the sale date as well.
While the purported internal memo only mentioned (PRODUCT) RED Editions of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, Apple could extend the same courtesy to the more expensive iPhone X as well, to better support (RED).
Aside from MacRumors, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg also reported on Twitter that Apple's new (PODUCT) RED iPhone series is about to make its debut, but offered no additional details regarding the actual availability or the launch price.
The news falls in line with other previous leaks and reports, hinting at an imminent launch of new Apple (PRODUCT) RED models.
Just like other (PRODUCT) RED products before them, the new red iPhones will donate part of the sales to Global Fund HIV/AIDS grants designed to support counseling, testing, treatment, and prevention programs with a special focus to raise awareness and reduce cases in which mothers pass on the virus to their babies.
