As if by tradition in Samsung's case, there's a rumored "mini" variant for its flagship in 2018 too.
Needless to say, the smartphone maker's contender this year is the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus. That makes the miniature variant this time around the Galaxy S9 Mini, and its benchmark results could be in already.
Galaxy S9 Mini Possible Specs
The benchmarking tool Geekbench posted results for an unnamed Samsung device with the model number SM-G8750. This is said to be referring to the Galaxy S9 Mini.
Assuming this is really the handset in question, it'll boast an octa-core Snapdragon 660 that's paired with 4 GB of RAM. Out of the box, it'll be powered by Android 8.0 Oreo. Based on these specifications, it's going to be a midrange device.
Now the benchmark results don't really say much. Just to recap, it only revealed the Qualcomm chip and amount of RAM under the hood. That includes the OS it's going to run on and the model number too. However, there's no confirmation that it's the Galaxy S9 Mini at all.
Why The Galaxy S9 Mini Needs To Be A Thing
The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus aren't exactly the most affordable smartphones out there. An unlocked version of the former costs $720 from Samsung, after all. Meanwhile, the latter has an $840 price tag. Getting one from a carrier won't do any favors either since it's typically more expensive there.
Aside from a smaller screen, one other good reason to go for the Galaxy S9 Mini is the price, which is safe to assume to be cheaper. In other words, users can get the Galaxy S9's key features and whatnot without breaking the bank. That is, if it really does become official.
The Bottom Line
Another year, another Samsung mini rumor. Sometimes they're the real deal, but sometimes they turn out to be false, just like the Galaxy S8 Mini.
At any rate, benchmark results for the alleged Galaxy S9 Mini are a good sign it's coming to reality, but just to be safe, don't hold your breath. For the record, the last mini Galaxy phone is the Galaxy S5 Mini, which was announced back in June 2014 and released in the following month.
It's also worth mentioning that if you're in the market for small Android phones, you can turn your attention to Sony's Xperia XZ2 Compact.
