Free PlayStation Plus Games For April 2018: 'Mad Max', 'Trackmania Turbo' Disappointing After 'Bloodborne' In March

Sony revealed the free games that PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to download in April 2018, headlined by Mad Max and Trackmania Turbo for the PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation Plus free games next month, however, may be considered disappointing, after the AAA action-horror title Bloodborne was offered this month.

PlayStation Plus Free Games For April 2018

For April 2018, PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to download Mad Max and Trackmania Turbo on the PlayStation 4 for free.

Mad Max transforms the post-apocalyptic franchise into an open-world adventure. It was released in 2015, the same year as the award-winning movie Mad Max: Fury Road, but there is no connection between them. Trackmania Turbo, meanwhile, is an arcade-style racing game that features PlayStation VR support, for gamers who own the virtual reality headset.

For the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Plus will offer twin-stick shooter In Space We Brawl and miniature car racer Toy Home as the free downloads for April. Meanwhile, for the PlayStation Vita, the free games will be brawler title 99 Vidas and a remake of the retro arcade game, Q*Bert Rebooted, with the latter also being a cross-buy title with the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

It appears that Sony allocated most of its monthly PlayStation Plus budget to pay third-party studios for Mad Max and Trackmania Turbo, leaving little to spend for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita games. It should also be remembered that Sony will stop including PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita titles as free PlayStation Plus downloads starting March 2019.

Bloodborne Still Available As PS Plus Free Download

The April 2018 lineup for the PlayStation Plus free games is actually not that horrible, but it fails to live up to the hype generated by Bloodborne for March 2018. When Bloodborne was announced as a free PlayStation Plus download, subscribers hoped that it will kick off a trend of AAA games being offered under the program. Unfortunately, it appears that nothing of the sort will happen.

In comparison with the Xbox Games with Gold lineup for April 2018, Microsoft wins this month, as it is offering acclaimed puzzle game The Witness and Assassin's Creed; Syndicate, one of the most popular entries in the series, as free downloads.

The PlayStation Plus free games for next month will be made available starting April 3, which gives subscribers a few more days to download Bloodborne if they have not yet done so. The notoriously difficult title should keep players busy while waiting for the next From Software game, which was teased at The Game Awards 2017.
