Apple Makes Once-Exclusive iMac Pro Accessories Available For All Users

Fans of Apple's Space Gray accessories don't need to buy an iMac Pro just to get them, as the company just made it available even for non-iMac Pro users.

These accessories include the Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad, Magic Mouse 2, and Magic Trackpad 2. Previously, these were only available alongside the iMac Pro, which runs for $4,999 and targets professional users. White and Silver variants of the same accessories have been available for quite some time, but the Space Gray edition's exclusivity has led to some complaints from avid fans.

How Much Are They?

All the Space Gray variants are $20 more expensive than their White and Silver counterparts, it's worth noting. That means the Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad 2 cost $149 apiece, while the Magic Mouse 2 runs for $99. Making them available was a surprise move and comes on the same day as Apple's unveiling of a new iPad model focused on education.

Same Accessories As Before

The accessories haven't actually been updated, though — they remain as they were back in 2015, when Apple refreshed its accessories line. Still the same keyboard, mouse, and trackpad. The only difference is that customers don't need to be forced to get an iMac Pro just to get the Space Gray versions. They can all be used via Bluetooth and are rechargeable. Fans of wires will be displeased to know that Apple no longer sells wired accessories. There's also a Magic Keyboard but without a numeric keypad, but only in Silver.

For those who have been wanting to match their Space Gray MacBook Pro with similarly themed accessories, now's the perfect chance. Do know, however, that reviews for some of these accessories are mixed. Macworld said "nothing about the $79(!) Magic Mouse 2 in terms of user input that makes it a must-have." Again, the Space Gray version costs $99. Meanwhile, Appleinsider gave the Magic Trackpad 2 some merit points for featuring Force Touch, an Apple-developed technology that detects the pressure of one's finger on the trackpad surface and tries to simulate the feeling of a true click.

"If you have grown accustomed to Force Touch on your Macbook, or 3D Touch on iPhone, then the Magic Trackpad 2 is a natural extension to the desktop," Appleinsider said in its review.
