Sony has announced the prices of its new OLED TV lineup, which was first seen during CES 2018, and new additions to the other series.
Sony A8F BRAVIA OLED TV Prices
Sony's new 55-inch A8F comes at $2,800 while the 65-inch variant is at $3,800. While these prices still seem ludicrous to casual shoppers, it's still cheaper than the 55-inch A1E OLED TV that was priced at $4,000 when it was released.
However, it's still more expensive than the competition. LG's 2018 C8 series is $300 cheaper than Sony's A8F series in both sizes.
Apart from the OLED TVs, Sony also reveals the pricing of its new X850F and X900F LED TVs. Both series add 85-inch class TVs in their lineup, with the X850F model costing $4,500 and the latter at $5,300. The X900F series also adds a 49-inch class TV that is priced at $1,100.
Sony A8F OLED TV vs A1E OLED TV
The A8F screens are recycled from the 2017 series, which explains why they have the same sizes as their predecessors. This also means that nothing has changed in terms of picture quality. The A8F series also uses the same processor and the same Android TV operating system as the A1E.
The reasons to buy the newer one would be the sound quality and the overall design. Sony spiced up the design by removing the kickstand that made the A1E lean back when standing. The A8F now has the standard foot stand that reduces the TV's footprint by 84 mm.
The new design also makes it better as a wall-mounted OLED TV. The A8F protrudes only 76 mm from the wall, compared to A1E's 107 mm.
The Sony A8F now has two woofers that sit on the back of the TV now that the electronics company removed the kickstand, which held A1E's woofer. It gives a slight difference to the sound, which is still produced from the screen via the Acoustic Surface Technology.
"With Sony's Acoustic SurfaceTM technology, the sound comes to you from the entire screen, with voices appearing to come directly from the characters' mouths and explosions directly from the action on the screen," according to Sony.
There's also no 77-inch option currently, and it's unknown whether the Japanese corporation will announce it for the A8F.
Apart from these differences, the A8F BRAVIA is still the same old OLED TV with Google Assistant voice control. It's also coming with a compatibility with Alexa.
Sony's A8F are available now for presale at major retailers, such as Best Buy and Amazon.
