Ninja Theory just confirmed that Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is coming to the Xbox One platform this April 11 — and everyone gets a 10 percent discount if they preorder now or purchase the game in its first week.
The game will come with enhanced graphics for the Xbox One X too. The game launched last year for PC and follows Senua as she descends into a delusional nightmare.
The dark fantasy action-adventure game is inspired by Norse mythology and Celtic culture but has received a fair amount of criticism for its supposed depiction of mental illness. The main character, Senua, suffers from a condition called psychosis and regards it as a curse.
Psychosis
Tameem Antoniades, Ninja Theory's chief creative director, recently gave a talk about the behind-the-scenes of Hellblade at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. He explained how the studio approached mental health experts and patients to get an idea of what a character suffering from psychosis would be like.
"Our goal was to create Senua's mind's eye," said Antoniades, as VentureBeat reports. So the studio created a character that doesn't see the world as an in-sync phenomenon but instead as a nightmarish landscape of horrifics.
The studio also created a website to get more information about mental health and mental illnesses.
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice On Xbox One
Again, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is launching on Xbox One this April 11 and features HDR. The game is enhanced for the Xbox One X, with three modes of enhancement to choose from. There's Enhanced Visuals, which offers extra effects and prioritizes graphical quality. There's also High Framerate, which maintains a 60 fps rate throughout the game. Then there's High Resolution, which pushes the game to dynamic resolutions of up to 4K.
The game will sell on the Xbox Store for $30, but again, customers who preorder now, along with those who'll get a copy during the game's first week, will be entitled to get a 10 percent discount.
Here's what IGN had to say about the game:
"Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is a masterclass of atmosphere, storytelling, and the marriage of mechanical and conceptual design. While there are moments that feel shoehorned in to remind us we're playing a videogame, the care and attention Ninja Theory has clearly poured into Senua and her story has created something amazing."
