Koei Tecmo surprises its western fans with an updated trailer for the English release of Warriors Orochi 4 alongside the sequel's official logo design.
Over the weekend, the game studio released the Japanese announcement video for Musou Orochi 3, as it is known in Japan. The company has yet to confirm the official launch date for both versions of the brawler since it only listed a vague 2018 release. The last time a Warrior's Orochi installment was released was back in 2011, which is why the reveal is apparently a cause for excitement for followers of the long-running series.
Naming Difference For Different Territories
It is immediately noticeable that the Japanese version of the game lists the upcoming title as the third in the series. Meanwhile, customers in the United States will get a game labeled as the fourth in the franchise. According to official sources, number 2 was released in the East as Musou Orochi Maou Sairin, but it was considered as the second in the West. Other than the name, both versions should be the same as the ones released before.
Fan Feedback Regarding Gameplay
Reports confirm that the recent reveal excited avid fans of the series. Most of them posted their comments on the official Twitter page for Warriors Orochi 4. The fervor is observably warranted due to the lengthy absence of sequel from the spotlight.
The short trailer did not show any gameplay, which is considered a cause for concern for some gamers. Dynasty Warriors 9 was apparently received poorly due to its decision to go with an open-world mechanic. There are others who are confident and believe that Koei Tecmo presumably learned from its mistakes and reworked the gameplay to something more familiar.
Speculation Based On The Trailer
With no gameplay footage anywhere in the trailer, gamers are left to speculate what will be featured in the new game. Nonetheless, it will most likely showcase characters from both the Samurai Warriors and Dynasty Warriors franchise.
Eagle-eyed viewers quickly pointed out that the short clip includes shots of Sanada Yukimura and Zhao Yun from the two aforementioned games, respectively.
The game's setting seems to Greek-inspired thanks to the design of the temples in the announcement trailer. Others suspect that this might be the first game to feature warriors of European descent since all previous releases involved heroes that were Asian. Koei Tecmo is expected to reveal more information about Warriors Orochi 4 come E3 2018 along with its release date and platforms.
