The StarCraft franchise is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, so Blizzard will be giving away in-game items to StarCraft II, StarCraft: Remastered, Diablo III, Overwatch, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, and World of Warcraft players.
The in-game gifts, in combination with the fact that both the original StarCraft and StarCraft II have been made free-to-play, expand the reach of the universe of the Terrans, Zerg, and Protoss.
Blizzard Celebrates 'StarCraft' 20th Anniversary
StarCraft, which Blizzard introduced to the world on March 31, 1998, is soon turning 20 years old. To celebrate the milestone, the developer will be giving away gifts not just to StarCraft players, but also to the communities of its other games.
StarCraft II players who log in after March 6 will receive a special user interface skin for each of the game's three races. Players logging in from March 6 to April 3 will also acquire a Portrait and a Decal. Meanwhile, StarCraft: Remastered players logging in after March 6 will receive a 20th Anniversary user interface skin.
Moving on to Blizzard's other games, Diablo III players who log in after March 6 will acquire Dominion's Revenge, a pet that resembles the Terran's gigantic Battlecruiser. Overwatch players who log in between March 6 and April 3 will receive a new Widowmaker skin fashioned after Sarah Kerrigan, in her human form as a Ghost.
Meanwhile, Hearthstone players will be able to win three packs from the Kobolds & Catacombs set by playing a StarCraft-inspired Tavern Brawl, which will run from March 21 to March 25. Heroes of the Storm players who log in from March 27 to April 7 will acquire a 20th Anniversary Portrait for the three StarCraft races, and World of Warcraft players who salute a StarCraft-themed companion pet from March 31 to April 6 will acquire the Feat of Strength "Salute to StarCraft."
In addition to the free in-game gifts, Blizzard will celebrate StarCraft's 20th birthday by releasing the short film StarCraft Is Life: A 20th Anniversary Celebration on March 31.
