The Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 and 2 release date for the Nintendo Switch has finally been revealed, bringing the Blue Bomber to the hybrid console within the expected window of spring 2018.
The arrival of Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 and 2 to the Nintendo Switch is big news by itself, but it is just a precursor for even more things to come for fans of the massively popular franchise.
'Mega Man Legacy Collection' For Nintendo Switch Release Date
In December 2017, Capcom revealed that Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 and 2 will arrive to the Nintendo Switch in spring 2018. In an industry where launch delays are frustratingly too common, Capcom is keeping its promise, with the two collections to launch on the hybrid console on May 22.
According to the Capcom Unity blog, the launch of Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 and 2 for the Nintendo Switch is part of the 30th Anniversary celebration for the franchise. The collections may be purchased as separate digital downloads through the Nintendo eShop or as a package through retailers.
Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 contains the first six games in the Mega Man series, all from the Nintendo Entertainment System. The NES classics will offer the added feature of allowing players to save their game just about anywhere, which will make it easier to get through the trickiest parts. There will also be a rewind feature that will let players re-do mistakes such as an ill-timed jump or a just-missed shot. In addition, owners of any Mega Man amiibo will be able to unlock 11 fan-made challenges that were previously only available in the Nintendo 3DS release of the collection.
Mega Man Legacy Collection 2, meanwhile, contains Mega Man 7 to 10 from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The SNES titles will also provide additional challenges when a Mega Man amiibo is used, and Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 will come with all their previously released DLC.
The digital releases of Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 and 2 will be sold at $14.99 and $19.99, respectively, while the retail version, made up of Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 on a cartridge and Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 as a digital download, will be sold for $39.99 with an exclusive Mega Man 30th Anniversary cleaning cloth.
What's Next For The 'Mega Man' Franchise?
The arrival of Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 and 2 to the Nintendo Switch is not the only way that Capcom is celebrating the Blue Bomber's 30th Anniversary.
All Mega Man X games are also coming to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, though no release date has been revealed.
The culmination of the 30th Anniversary celebration, however, is the launch of Mega Man 11, a brand-new game for the franchise that will launch in late 2018.
