Steam always seems like it's cooking up sales to reel in more users. This weekend, the game on spotlight is Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
Steam has announced that the multiplayer will be completely free for the weekend, allowing gamers that have not yet purchased the game to try it out.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare by Sledgehammer Games is the top-selling title so far for 2014.
The free-to-play multiplayer of the game will last until Dec. 14, 1 p.m. Pacific Time.
Gamers that enjoy Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and get hooked on it will also be able to purchase the title for a discount. From the regular price of $60, gamers can enjoy a 25 percent discount that knocks down the price of the title to $45.
The Digital Pro Edition of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is also on sale until Dec. 15, 10 a.m. Pacific Time, with a 20 percent discount from its regular price of $100 to the sale price of $80.
Aside from a copy of the game, included in the Digital Pro Edition is a Season Pass, which provides gamers with four additional DLC Map Packs; the bonus Atlas Gorge multiplayer map; the Atlas Digital Content Pack that features the BAL-27 AE Assault Rifle and Atlas 45 AE Pistol as bonus weapons, a customized Atlas Player Card, Exoskeleton and Helmet, five Bonus Supply Drops for unlocking in-game content, and an exoskeleton upgrade token for single player; two more bonus weapons, the AK-12G Assault Rifle and CROSSBOW-B2; and the Advanced Arsenal, which includes the EM1 Quantum-directed energy weapons and the Bullet Brass Exoskeleton.
The sale of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare preludes the much-anticipated Winter Sale of Steam, which is rumored to be launching on Dec. 18.
According to PC Gamer, PayPal Japan has supposedly sent an email to a Reddit user about the not-yet-released date of the Winter Sale. The email was forwarded to PC Gamer to confirm its existence, and true enough, it seems that the date of the Winter Sale has been leaked.
The information, however, is not yet confirmed. While the early warning system utilized by PayPal for Steam Sales has long been a reliable indicator of such events, the email has not yet been confirmed as really coming from PayPal Japan.
The leaked date is likely to be true, however, as last year, the Winter Sale launched on the Thursday before the week of Christmas. Last year, the date fell on Dec. 19, and this year, it will fall on Dec. 18.
However, Dec. 18 is also when Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be released. New titles are not usually launched during sale periods.
While the Winter Sale will just be a few weeks after the Autumn Sale, the Winter Sale is bigger and longer, with more titles to be included in the featured slots.
