The release of the Nintendo Super NES Classic Edition has been a hit with consumers and the latest numbers in terms of units sold is a testament to its success.
In Nintendo’s latest financial report, the company has disclosed that they have sold about four million Super NES Classic Edition units. That number includes sales in the United States as well as Japan and Europe.
These numbers show that the Super NES classic actually outsold the NES Classic Edition, which sold about 2.3 million units during its initial months of release. Numbers for the NES Classic Edition are sure to rise as the console will resume production in 2018. The Super NES console will also remain on sale in 2018 as well.
Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said that the gaming company views these classic consoles as a way to help grab interest in their current console, the Nintendo Switch.
With the success of both the NES and SNES classic editions, fans have been wondering if the gaming company will continue with the trend and release an N64 console next. It may be an accurate guess as a trademark filing from Nintendo suggests that it could be happening.
