BBC's most popular properties, including Doctor Who, Sherlock and Top Gear, are being made into theme park attractions.
It's happening at a planned new park called London Paramount, which is being developed for a 2020 opening. The park, which is expected to cost more than $3 billion to build, will live in Kent, which is about an hour outside of London proper.
The park had already announced its intentions to build attractions around Paramount's biggest franchises, such as Star Trek, Mission: Impossible and The Godfather, but now those attractions are getting some decidedly British friends. In addition to Paramount's properties, a new partership has been forged that will bring attractions to the park based on the likes of Doctor Who, Sherlock, Top Gear and potentially more.
London Paramount hopes to bring in 50,000 visitors a day with its combination of attractions, live entertainment, dining, a water park and resort accommodations. More than 50 attractions are planned, including 12 major rides, though some attractions won't yet be available on opening day.
In addition to Paramount's 3,000+ properties being up for grabs, BBC's entire catalog is in play too, so there could be many more attractions beyond those that have been announced. One could easily see rides and attractions based on BBC properties like Walking With Dinosaurs, Dancing With the Stars (yep, it's a BBC brand), or maybe even Orphan Black.
