Video Game Developers Flock To Nintendo Switch With Promise Of Creating More Games

The Nintendo Switch is a hit and developers are finally seeing the potential in the hybrid console. A recent survey states that game publishers will make more games for the console.

According to a survey from the Game Developers Conference, publishers are in love with the Switch and will make four times as many games for the hybrid console as were produced in 2017.

At the conference, nearly 4,000 game developers were polled and said they have a growing interest in the Nintendo console. When asked which platforms they were most interested in, 36 percent responded with the Switch. This places the hybrid console above the Xbox One at 28 percent, but below the PlayStation 4 at 39 percent.

Furthermore, the survey revealed that developers say their games sell as well or better on the Nintendo Switch compared to other consoles. About 12 percent say they are in the process of creating titles for the console, which is up from 3 percent in 2017. Plus, another 15 percent said they are planning to launch their next title on the Switch.

It is worth noting that the console is still fairly new compared to the Xbox One and PS4. This means that the hype surrounding the hybrid console may not last in the coming years.

However, it was revealed back in December that the console broke a record for the gaming company. The Switch has broken the U.S. record for the fastest selling console ever, with 4.8 million units sold in just 10 months of its release.

Other Statistics

Some of the other statistics from the GDC revealed that developers will continue with loot boxes and possibly stop VR use. Eleven percent of developers revealed that they will continue to work with the loot box system.

In terms of VR use, 29 percent of developers revealed that AR and VR use in games was not sustainable or a long-term business, which is up from 25 percent in 2017.

Meanwhile, PC and mobile games remain the most popular platforms developers are looking at, but the latter is waning a bit. At least 32 percent of game creators revealed that they’d take titles to mobile, which is a drop from 2017’s 35 percent.

Nintendo is working hard to reach gamers in a more creative and unique way and its latest creation does just that.

The company recently revealed their DIY cardboard toys for switch called Nintendo Labo. Essentially, this is a creative way for gamers to use and create, while using the Nintendo Switch to power their creations.

With just cardboard, users can create things like pianos, fishing poles, and motorbikes and then use the Switch console to play a recital, fish, or race in a tournament.
