Will Ferrell's comedy website Funny or Die has laid off a number of its employees, according to a memo from its CEO, Mike Farah.
Funny Or Die Is Facing Some Tough Challenges
Funny or Die's CEO Mike Farah announced that the company is going through some tough challenges that they can no longer ignore and, with that, have to make some changes within the company.
In the memo, Farah didn't reveal how many employees were impacted by the new round of layoffs.
Funny Or Die Has To Let Go Of Some Great People
"There is no good way to deliver news like this," said Farah. "The simple fact is that today we have to let go of some great people at Funny or Die," he said. "It sucks. These people are incredible smart and talented, and they represented the best of us. Most important, they're our friends."
Funny Or Die Will Still Produce Comedy For Various Platforms
Even with the news of the latest layoffs, the company still plans to continue developing and producing the comedy for various platforms. This year along, the site produced Get Out (of the White House), The Shirtless Painter, Long Hair Businessman, and The Earliest Show.
Funny Or Die Was Founded By Will Ferrell
Founded in 2007, Funny or Die was founded by celebrities such as Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and Chris Henchy. The company was also backed by Time Warner and Sequoia Capital. And on occasion, the team would be joined by other contributing celebrities like James Franco, Judd Apatow, and Norm MacDonald.
Initially, Farah joined Funny or Die as a producer back in 2008. He also won an Emmy award for Between Two Ferns, as he was the executive producer.
Funny Or Die Laid Off 30 Percent Of Its Staff Last Year
This isn't the first time the comedy site had to cut down its staff members. Last year, the company laid off about 30 percent of its team, in addition to closing one of its locations in San Mateo, California. Most of the staff members that were working at the San Mateo office were working on application development.
Even with the recent layoffs, and the changes the company will be making, Farah is confident Funny or Die isn't going anywhere, anytime soon.
"With an audience of 52 million people and growing, we are not going anywhere for a long time," said Farah.
