If you're reading this, that means you've stumbled upon yet another "Best of 2014" list. But this one is going to be fun, I promise.
How could it not be? We're talking about Tumblr here, the Internet's best destination to procrastinate, enlighten yourself on the world beyond your computer screen and laugh. Like a lot.
Yes, Tumblr was bursting with creativity this year as users took to the microblogging platform to bring classic works of art into the 21st century, analyze emoji and, of course, post a bevy of cute animal photos. There was a lot of fun, fascinating and even infuriating content on Tumblr in 2014. Here is the best of the best.
1. Love, Grampa and Grandmaster Flash
You've got to love grandparents. They don't really know how to use technology, but they still try their best. One of the kooky things senior citizens do on the Internet is accidentally tag legendary hip-hop artist Grandmaster Flash in Facebook posts when they really mean to write "Grandma" or "Grandpa." Oh, bless their little hearts.
Not only is this Tumblr one of the best memes of Vice President Joe Biden on the Internet today, but it is one of my favorite Tumblrs of the year. Possibly ever. The resemblance between Vice President Biden and various dogs of the Interwebs is just so uncanny, you can't help but smile.
If classic works of art could talk, this is what they would say, er type, all with a hilarious, irreverent twist.
4. Straight White Boys Texting
This Tumblr, which compiles screenshots of men asking women sexual non-sequiturs online and through text, may make you lose faith in the human race, but it's nonetheless important to get out there.
In a city of more than 8 million people, it can be difficult to find some privacy when you're out in public and just need to let the tears flow. That's why this Tumblr is essential reading for every New Yorker to find out where you should and should not shed a few tears in public.
This is another Tumblr that puts a modern twist on classic works of art. This time, art director Olivia Muus lent them a hand — literally — and made it look like the figures in the paintings and the statues were taking selfies. And you know what? They kind of look just like us.
Today's entrepreneur has traded in a suit and tie for a T-shirt, and this Tumblr uses photos of that uniform to poke fun at startup culture. Spoiler alert: You're going to see a lot of logos in script on this Tumblr, and they're probably going to be on red or blue T-shirts, too.
8. Shoshi Games
Remember when the Sochi Winter Olympics consumed — or ruined, depending on who you ask — your TV schedule back in February? Well around that time, one genius decided to imagine how Shoshanna from Girls would act if she was an Olympic athlete, and it was glorious. It's just too bad this Tumblr had such a short lifespan.
9. Emojinalysis
In this brilliant Tumblr, ad copywriter Daniel Brill psychoanalyzes user submissions of their most recently used emoji. Reading this won't help you understand the human mind any better, but it sure is entertaining!
10. Which Picture Would They Use?
Social media has been a major source of activism in the Ferguson protests this year. This Tumblr, which compiled user-generated, side-by-side images to ask which photo the media would use in a story about the individual's death, was simply powerful.
11. Drunk J.Crew
This Tumblr confirmed what we all suspected about J.Crew models: that they all look inebriated. Those ladies sure know how to party.
12. Beyonce Voters
You might not think seeing Beyonce's song lyrics sprawled across photos of some of the greatest female political figures of our time would be that interesting. But it is, it is!
Some people swear by Airbnb, but you have to admit that the whole idea of sleeping in a complete stranger's house is pretty freaky. This Tumblr brings us the creepiest of the creepy listings.
Julien Britnic updates Penguin's classic book covers by infusing it with a little bit of today's pop culture. OK, a lot.
