"Do you ever look at someone and wonder, 'What is going on inside their head?'"
The first full-length trailer — which is made up entirely of one extended scene — for Pixar's Inside Out is set up with those exact words, and it sums up the premise of the whole movie too. But first, watch. Then we'll talk.
The young girl's name is Riley, and she's the main character of Inside Out. Or at least, she's the stage on which the five main characters play. Why is she so surly? Because her dad has just uprooted her family, moving them to San Francisco because of a new job.
The movie comes from the quirky mind of writer/director Pete Docter, whose prior credits include Monsters, Inc. and Up. The cast includes Amy Poehler as Riley's inner Joy, Bill Hader as Fear, Mindy Kaling as Disgust, Lewis Black as Anger, and Phyllis Smith as Sadness.
It looks like vintage Pixar, don't you think? The kind of crazy original stuff Pixar used to be known for, like Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and WALL-E. We can't wait to see Pixar return to that flavor of storytelling, which is expected to happen on June 19, 2015 when Inside Out arrives in theaters.
