A brand new update is reportedly in the works for a Fable game and Microsoft is looking into Forza Horizon producers to develop it.
Reports say that UK developer Playground has been tasked with creating a big-budget game set in the mythical world of Albion.
Although Microsoft said in a statement that it does not comment on rumors of speculations, the company didn’t deny the reports. Even more, details have come that give some credibility to the report that a new Fable game is on the horizon.
Fable Rumors
Back in November 2017, Playground revealed plans for its first ever game that didn’t involve racing. The new title was only described as an open-world action RPG game and was codenamed Project 2.
Meanwhile, reports say that the new Fable title will be a fresh start for the franchise and break away from past iterations. The previous studio, Lionhead, will no longer be involved although it is still around and Playground will be starting from scratch.
Sources also revealed that the RPG is still in the beginning development phase and will not be revealed for quite some time. There are reportedly 200 people who are working on the title at Playground’s newly opened UK offices.
Rumors have made its rounds on the internet and Fable co-creator Simon Carter told reports that he has mixed feelings about the game making a comeback. Carter was happy that the UK gaming scene would get a chance to produce a big title and he was excited to hear that the Fable game isn’t dead. On the other hand, he was not happy to hear that the game would be produced by an outside developer.
However, Carter said while the Fable game is “tough to deconstruct,” the Playground team is very talented and he believes they’re up to the challenge.
Fable Background
The popular RPG title was created back in 2004 by Lionhead Studios and its sister company Big Blue Box. Each of the games in the franchise was created by Lionhead until Microsoft closed the studio down in 2016. This ultimately canceled the Fable Legends game that was in development.
Since then, the franchise has been overlooked and Microsoft still retains the rights to the series. Reports indicate that Microsoft is finally giving the game some attention in response to Sony’s Horizon Zero Dawn success.
Developer Playground has worked on racing games for the Xbox, producing 2016’s Forza Horizon 3. The company has released a new Forza Horizon title every two years since 2012 and will more likely release a new title this year.
