Twitch has just received a major update on Xbox One, which offers a slew of enhanced broadcast filtering features in order to help users find what they want to watch even at a spur of the moment.
The new features include an added personal touch to the app experience, new Xbox one game directories and new videos on demand (VOD).
The latest update will also use Xbox Live in order to associate gameplay statistics with Twitch broadcasts in real time. This creates a wide array of search options. Depending on the type of game that one is searching for, some of the filters include progress, in-game activity, player skill level, maps, game modes, player stats and more.
"When you navigate to the directory for any Xbox One game, you'll see expanded filtering and sorting options," said Twitch. "The options are endless, with more Xbox One games being added over time."
This means that the user has more control over his viewing habits. Some of the parameters that one can use when searching for broadcasts include the amount of ultra combos performed in Killer Instinct and the high kill:death ratio in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
The most notable among the changes is the addition of streams that have been archived and highlighted. Dubbed Twitch Video on Demand (VOD), the change creates a thin line between Xbox One viewing and regular web browsing. Users can definitely access more on the app and not just have the ability to access the channel's live content.
Archived video will be gradually added to the channels of Xbox One Twitch. The VOD service will move and venture out of Xbox One in 2015.
Users can also enjoy a more personalized Twitch landing page where their chosen channels appear first.
"The redesigned homepage puts the content you follow front and center," said Twitch in a blog. "To curate your experience, hover over any Game or Channel, press the Menu button, and select Follow."
Instead of merely streaming games, users can start to follow an entire game. This will allow a faster way to get to their favorite games without having to scroll through the directory.
"Xbox One helped cement Twitch's place in the living room with its robust set of features," said Annie Berrones, Twitch's director of product marketing. "With this impressive set of updates, including the ability to now follow the games you want, view archived videos and have access to more advanced directories, video game streaming and spectating as part of the home entertainment experience is only going to get stronger."
