Not only has a remastered version of the original Dark Souls been announced, but a special box set containing pretty cool Dark Souls swag has been unveiled as well, which will run gamers JPY 49,800, or about $450.
Dark Souls Deluxe Box Set: What's Inside?
From Software is releasing an exclusive deluxe set of Dark Souls with the first Dark Souls title included, plus a roster of cool extra items such as a pair of bookends shaped like a bonfire and a knight, six CDs featuring the soundtrack, and three books.
The Dark Souls Trilogy Box comes with copies of Dark Souls: Remastered, Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin, and Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition. The soundtracks for each of these games are included in the loot, in addition to a handy item encyclopedia corresponding to all three titles. But wait, there's more: each box also comes with 10 special Dark Souls art sheets and a frame.
Dark Souls: Remastered
The special box set is launching May 24, according to the Japanese Dark Souls website — the same day that Dark Souls: Remastered comes out for the PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. For now, it's been announced for Japan, and it remains to be determined whether From Software will also be offering to Dark Souls fans in the West.
The remastered version of Dark Souls was announced during a heavily speculated Nintendo Direct presentation, which turned out to be a Direct Mini. There were many important games announced for the Switch in that presentation, including Dark Souls — marking the game's debut on a Nintendo console — a port of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and a previously shown Kirby game that's now named Kirby Star Allies.
Dark Souls
Dark Souls in an action role-playing game created by From Software and released in 2011, earning critical acclaim. It is now considered as one of the very best games ever made and is popular for being extremely difficult even for skilled hardcore gamers.
A sequel, Dark Souls II, was released several years later in 2014, set in the same universe as the first through narratively unrelated from it. It featured the same challenging gameplay, but with an improved graphics engine and more advanced artificial intelligence.
Dark Souls III, the latest games in the Souls franchise so far, was released in 2016, also critically acclaimed. It was the fastest-selling game ever released by Bandai Namco, pushing over 3 million copies globally within two months after its release.
