Nintendo Direct Mini January 2018: Here Are All The Games, DLC, And Updates Announced

Nintendo surprised everyone with the Direct Mini January 2018 presentation, and as the name suggests, it's a pretty short show — just shy of 15 minutes.

However, despite the length, it was chock-full of juicy bits and announcements for the Nintendo Switch. That said, here's a compilation of everything you need to know from the event, from the new upcoming games to the ports and updates.

The World Ends With You: Final Remix

The Nintendo DS classic The World Ends with You is getting restyled for the Switch as The World Ends with You: Final Remix.

When it rolls out, you can choose between touch controls and Joy-Con controls, and more than that, you'll get a "sizeable new scenario that gets right to the heart of the story" to boot.

There's no word on a solid release date, though, but it'll be available sometime this year.

Pokkén Tournament DX

New Pokémon are on their way to Pokkén Tournament DX through a paid DLC called the Deluxe Battle Pack.

The new Pokémon will be released in two waves, and that means there are two dates to look out for here: Jan. 31 and March 23.

On Jan. 31, you're going to get Wave 1 that consists of the battle character Aegislash and the support set Mega Rayquaza and Mimikyu, while on March 23, you're going to get Wave 2 that comes with the battle character Blastoise and the support set Mew and Celebi.

The DLC is already available, but needless to say, you won't get to use the new Pokémon even if you buy it now. You can use the new avatar items early, though.

Kirby Star Allies

To tide fans over perhaps, Nintendo showcased more of what to expect from Kirby Star Allies, which was unveiled at E3.

Artist and Spider are the new Copy Abilities in town, and in co-op mode, you can mix and match abilities. For instance, you can combine water and ice and get Icicle Lance. In other words, teamwork will go a long way here, which you might need to stand against "powerful enemies" and an "unknown deep-space threat."

The game is scheduled to roll out on March 16.

Dragon Quest Builders

The demo version of Dragon Quest Builders is now available at the Nintendo eShop for the Switch. Meanwhile, the full version is expected to launch by the end of January.

Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition

Fans of Hyrule Warriors are in for a treat. The upcoming Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition will be the "ultimate version," bringing along all the maps, characters, and missions from the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U versions. Just to be clear, that includes all the premium DLC from before.

Up to two players can play on one Switch in split screen when on tabletop mode too.

Last but not least, Link and Zelda are also getting new outfits that are based on The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild.

Release date is sometime in spring of 2018.

Mario Tennis Aces

Called Mario Tennis Aces, another Super Mario sports title is coming this spring to the Switch. Most notably, it's the first Mario tennis game that's going to have a story mode since Mario Tennis: Power Tour on the Game Boy Advance.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa Of DANA

For those who don't know, YS VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA is an RPG for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC. Now it's making its way to the Switch in the summer of 2018.

Super Mario Odyssey

A free update is heading to Super Mario Odyssey, and it's bringing Luigi into the mix and a new online activity called Balloon World — that is, if you've finished the game already. There are two modes here: Hide It and Find It. In Hide It mode, you're tasked with hiding a balloon that other players will have to find, while in Find It mode, you're the one doing the searching. There's a ranking system in place too, where you'll rise in the boards by being good at hiding balloons and by being fast in finding them.

That's not all either. The update is also coming with three new outfits — Sunshine Shades & Outfit, Musician Hat & Outfit, and Knight Helmet & Armor — and filters for snapshot mode too.

All this will be up for grabs in February.

SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy

SNK's female fighters are under the spotlight in SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy. It focuses on characters such as Athena Asamiya, Kula Diamond, Leona Heidern, Mai Shiranui, and Yuri Sakazaki.

It's out this summer.

More than that, the ACA NeoGeo Art of Fighting 2 is also now available at the eShop for the Switch.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

A new DLC is coming to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, and it's adding a new playable character to the roster: Donkey Kong this spring.

Payday 2

The Payday 2 is about to be ported to the Switch, and it's coming with the time-exclusive character or heister Joy, a "Japanese computer whiz."

Unlike most entries in the list, it has a solid release date of Feb. 27.

Fe

Fe is a "new type of platforming adventure" that's set for Feb. 16. It's one of the indie titles in EA Originals.

Celeste

Celeste is a platformer developed by Matt Makes Games, and it's heading to the Switch on Jan. 25.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Another Wii U title is getting ported to the Switch on May 4, and it's none other than Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. The best part is, there's a new playable character called Funky Kong too.

Dark Souls Remastered

Possibly one of the biggest announcements during the Nintendo Direct Mini of January 2018 is that Dark Souls Remastered is landing on the Switch on May 25.
