T-Mobile is launching the only unlimited 4G LTE family plan in the United States, in a bid to attract consumers that wish to do away with all the hassle and confusion of having to monitor the Internet usage of family members.
The deal from T-Mobile, named the Simple Choice family plan, offers unlimited 4G LTE data for two family members at a price of $100. Up to a total of 10 family members can be included in the plan, for only $40 per additional person on top of the initial $100 charge.
The plan puts all the members of the family into the T-Mobile 4G LTE network, which the company said is the fastest in the United States.
According to a press release by T-Mobile, its rival carriers are flooding the market with shared data plans that have proven to cause confusion to consumers. AT&T, Sprint and Verizon have a total of 24 different kinds of family plans and promotional plans between them.
Unsurprisingly, 81 percent of the respondents in a recently held poll described the data plans in the wireless communications industry as either "very confusing" or "somewhat confusing." In addition, 75 percent of the respondents said that they "hate" having to monitor the data usage of their family members for the shared data plans of different carriers, with 40 percent stating that they are in constant worry of incurring penalties on such plans for excess data.
To address the issue, T-Mobile is releasing the Simple Choice family plan so that all the members of the family can use as much data as they possibly can, at a price that will prove to be even better than what other carriers are currently offering.
"People are saying loud and clear that they hate the confusion and complexity of the carriers' shared data plans, and they should," said T-Mobile CEO and President John Legere.
Legere added that the plans the other carriers are implementing are designed in such a way to force consumers to pay more for their data services. This is evident, Legere said, in the $1.5 billion worth of total overage penalties that the three other major carriers in the United States have raked in for this year, more than half of which were collected by AT&T.
In addition to unlimited access to 4G LTE for all the family members, T-Mobile also offers other perks such as no yearly service contracts and domestic overages, no limits on calls and texts, unlimited streaming of music, unlimited texts and data in over 120 countries, Wi-Fi calling and in-flight messaging at no cost.
