'Star Wars: Rivals' Coming Soon To Mobile Devices, Adds PvP Combat Mode

Star Wars fans, rejoice! Star Wars: Rivals mobile game is coming soon to iOS and Android devices, Lucasfilm and Disney have announced. The free-to-play action shooter mobile game lets players travel to a galaxy far, far away, battling against rivals in PvP arenas across planets Bespin, Scarif, Jakku, and the Death Star.

In Star Wars: Rivals, players build the ultimate combat team, compete in fast-paced PvP arenas, and confront rivals such as Han Solo and Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, along with, Finn and Captain Phasma. Players can destroy their opponents with powerful weapons such as Chewbacca's bowcaster, Han Solo's DL-44 blaster pistol, and Boba Fett's EE-3 carbine rifle.

We're not sure when Star Wars: Rivals mobile game will be launched on the App Store or Google Play, but Disney is offering some exclusive content to those who signup for pre-registration for the game. By downloading Star Wars: Rivals from Google Play, Android owners will get access to Death Trooper support units while iOS owners get access to Rebel Special Forces support units when the game officially launches.

Disney released the beta version of Star Wars: Rivals on the Play Store back in July. Like most action shooter games, Star Wars: Rivals is "free-to-play' but offers in-app purchases that cost anywhere between $4.99 and $99.99.

For example, to build the ultimate hero, players have to purchase Crystals for $40, which comes with "160 Data Tapes, with 70 of those earmarked for Ultimate heroes." "Every item you need revolves around Crystals, it is pretty clear that you will have to spend quite a lot of real money to stay competitive."

Though, that shouldn't be too surprising for Star Wars fans to find out, as Disney is always looking to make some money. Will Star Wars: Rivals become a successful mobile game for Disney/Lucasfilms? It depends on how fans react to the new PvP combat mode.

Lucasfilm also applied for a trademark on Star Wars: Rivals on Feb. 23, 2017. The application describes it's for "Education and entertainment services," which doesn't mean much. Though, a lot of people are speculationg Lucasfilms will release Star Wars: Rivals as an animated show. Anything is possible, really.

Users can download Star Wars: Rivals from the Google Play Store and Apple Store.
