Kate Spade Partners With Fossil For Android Wear Smartwatch Line

Clothing brand Kate Spade New York has stepped into the wearables ring with its own line of Android Wear smartwatches.

At CES 2018, the company revealed it has collaborated with watch brand Fossil to bring its own line of wearables. Reports state this is Fossil’s way to launch smartwatches across, as many brands as possible.

A Smartwatch Specifically For Women

The device revealed at the tech show has a name. It is called the Kate Spade New York Scallop Touchscreen Smartwatch.

In terms of its design, the watch is described as “unapologetically feminine,” describes Mary Beech, the brand CEO. The design is meant to specifically target women and plan to do so in a much more attractive way. The devices can be styled with a few different cases and straps that give the device a more feminine look.

All the wearable devices coming from Kate Spade and Fossil will be powered by Android Wear 2.0 and feature a stainless steel body. The smartwatches have 1.2-inch, circular OLED displays, and an ambient light sensor.

What Features Will The Kate Spade Smartwatch Have?

Users will receive a plethora of features for the new wearable as it will run Android Wear 2.0. Some of the highlights of the software feature a much simpler navigation.

It allows users to swipe up to bring notifications and swipe down the screen to add a shade mode. They can tap the main button to launch the simple app list or long press the button to go into Google Assistant

There is also the ability to add customizable watch faces. Developers can add applications to any watch face for users. They can use apps without connection to a smartphone. Also, sending messages is a breeze.

Meanwhile, the Kate Spade smartwatch also gets an aesthetic update that matches the brand's style. The new device will come with an exclusive watch face that includes an NYC taxi.

Furthermore, the watches come with an app that will ask the users what color they are wearing to automatically match the watch face background.

Unfortunately, users looking for a smartwatch to help with fitness should look elsewhere. The device does not feature a heart-rate sensor or built-in GPS. The device is also missing an NFC chip, so mobile payment is excluded.

The Kate Spade New York Scallop Touchscreen Smartwatch with the bracelet will go for $325, while just the watch itself will be $295. The devices are expected to ship in February.
