Amazon Prime 2017: 5 Billion Items Shipped Worldwide, And The Rise Of The Instant Pot

Amazon released the statistics for Amazon Prime in 2017, revealing several interesting tidbits for its popular membership program.

Amazon Prime, which offers membership options of $99 for 12 months, $33 for three months, or $10.99 per month, provides members with free two-day shipping, access to services such as Prime Video, Prime Music, and exclusive deals.

Amazon Prime: Best Of 2017

In a Best of 2017 announcement for Amazon Prime, Amazon revealed that there are now 100 million items that are eligible for the service's free delivery perk, from 50 million items in the previous year. Meanwhile, in the accompanying press release, Amazon said that over 5 billion items were shipped with Amazon Prime worldwide in 2017.

The Best of 2017 report crowned the Amazon Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote, the Amazon Echo Dot, and AmazonBasics Cables as the most purchased items by Amazon Prime subscribers. Bananas, meanwhile, was the most ordered item through Amazon Fresh, delivered through the Amazon Prime Now two-hour delivery service.

For Amazon Prime Music, the most played songs were "Believer" by Imagine Dragons and "Something Just Like This" by The Chainsmokers. For Amazon Prime Video, the most watched Prime Originals worldwide was The Grand Tour, while NFL's Thursday Night Football attracted more than 17 million viewers across 200 countries and territories.

In addition, the most pressed Amazon Dash button was for Bounty paper towels. On Twitch Prime, members ordered over 5 million pre-release games worldwide, and the most popular Twitch Prime Loot were Overwatch golden loot boxes.

The Rise Of The Instant Pot

One of the most interesting highlights of the Best of 2017 announcement for Amazon Prime is the rise of the Instant Pot, a seven-in-one appliance that is capable of functioning as a slow cooker, electric pressure cooker, steamer, rice cooker, browning pan, yogurt maker, and warming pot.

The Instant Pot was the most gifted item in the Amazon Wedding Registry, the most Wish Listed product, and the best seller for Amazon Prime Day 2017. The Instant Pot Cookbook, which utilizes the appliance, was also the most gifted book.

Amazon Kicks Off 2018

With 2017 in the books, Amazon is off to an interesting start for 2018.

The Amazon Alexa app, the companion for the Amazon Echo, reached 10 million downloads on the Google Play Store, showing the popularity of the smart speaker.

However, Amazon's feud with Google intensified, with the Amazon Fire TV YouTube app taken down ahead of schedule, while President Donald Trump urged the U.S. Postal Service to charge higher fees for Amazon deliveries.
