Samsung Notebook 9 2018 Upgrades Bring New Models, Bigger Batteries, And More

Samsung has announced new upgrades for its 2018 Notebook 9 line and four new models are in store, boasting hefty batteries and good specs.

The company will take to CES 2018 next month to officially showcase a new Notebook 9 Pen, as well as three thin and light Notebook 9 ultrabooks that seem poised to take on Apple's MacBooks and Microsoft Surface devices.

Samsung Notebook 9 Pen

The upcoming Notebook 9 Pen is a 2-in-1 laptop/tablet hybrid which, as the name itself suggests, comes with an integrated S Pen stylus. The device sports a 13-inch display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, with no option for higher resolution.

Under the hood, the device packs an eighth-generation Intel Core i7 processor, up to 16 GB of RAM, and up to 512 GB of storage.

In terms of design, the Samsung Notebook 9 Pen will flip around to work in various modes. It will sport a sleek magnesium-aluminum alloy that makes the device impressively lightweight at just 2.2 pounds.

Other specs include a USB Type-C port, a regular USB port, an HDMI port, microSD support, and a Windows Hello camera that allows users to rely on face recognition to securely log into Windows 10.

The S Pen is battery-free and built into the device. Removing the S Pen from the notebook automatically triggers Air Command, which enables various S Pen shortcuts and apps that allow users to draw, write, sketch and create.

In addition to the Notebook 9 Pen, Samsung will also be showcasing three new Notebook 9 models early next year. The laptops are available in 13.3-inch and 16-inch options and can pack up to 1 TB of storage.

All three models share the same CPU and RAM options as the Notebook 9 Pen, but the 15-inch model can also fit discrete graphics. All models also come with fingerprint scanners, as well as Windows Hello support.

The Notebook 9 ultrabooks sport the same Metal12TM magnesium-aluminum alloy for a thin and light build and they also feature always-on power. Samsung packed 75Wh Hexacell batteries, the biggest and most powerful batteries it has ever used in a notebook. To further sweeten the deal, the Notebook 9 laptops also feature fast charging support.

"Designed to deliver the best in mobility, these four new notebooks ensure a computing experience that is powerful, portable, connected and secure," touts Samsung. "When paired with the latest productivity tools and services available from Samsung, the Notebook 9 Pen and Notebook 9 (2018) are the perfect complement to match a lifestyle where work or play can happen anywhere and at any time."
