Nobody does Christmas better than Hogwarts. In the Harry Potter series' School of Witchcraft and Wizardy, there are giant, fantastically decorated Christmas trees, magical creatures decorating the halls, and it even snows inside sometimes during the holiday season.
Unfortunately for us muggles, we'll never get to experience a real-live Hogwarts Christmas. But we will be getting the next best thing.
Just in time for Christmas, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is releasing 12 new short stories through the official Harry Potter online community Pottermore. Starting Dec. 12, there will be "a surprise" waiting for Pottermore users when they log on to the website, according to the announcement on the Pottermore Facebook page posted Dec. 5. Users will be able to access the new content in very Harry Potter fashion by answering rhyming riddles.
"With wonderful new writing by J.K. Rowling in Moments from 'Half-Blood Prince', shiny gold Galleons and even a new potion or two, make sure you don't miss out," the Facebook post said.
A forum thread on Harry Potter fan site Snitchseeker.com reports that a bit more information about what users can expect from "#PottermoreChristmas" was emailed to users in a newsletter, according to Polygon. The newsletter reportedly described Rowling's new writing will chronicle "Florean Fortescue's ghost plot to J.K. Rowling's thoughts on the sneaky Slytherin Draco Malfoy."
Though the final book in the series Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released in 2007, we've actually been getting quite a bit of new writing from Rowling lately that takes place within the Harry Potter universe. In July, Harry made his first appearance in Rowling's writing since the final Harry Potter book in the form of a 1,500-word piece published on Pottermore written in the voice of the series' resident gossip columnist Rita Skeeter. The story detailed what Harry and the gang have been up to as 30-somethings. On Halloween, Rowling released an essay on Pottermore that detailed the origins of Dolores Umbridge.
"#PottermoreChristmas" will run through Dec. 23.
