Post-apocalyptic shooter Metro: Exodus from 4A Games dropped by The Game Awards with a new trailer, showing a nuclear winter full of monsters.
The Game Awards ceremony takes place each year in December and in addition to honoring a slew of hit games in various categories, it also gives fans a sneak peek of what's to come.
That's also the case with Metro: Exodus, initially announced back in June at E3, coming as the latest installment in the popular Metro franchise. The first gameplay footage unveiled at E3 raised plenty of interest, and the new trailer now aims to further boost excitement for the upcoming title.
'Metro: Exodus' Trailer At The Game Awards
Metro: Exodus follows the 2013 Metro: Last Light and picks up where the other left off. The new game starts in a Moscow in ruins, with everyone gone and everything seemed quiet. A few people still live in the wasteland and are starting to lose hope, as mutated monsters are the only other living creatures and they're lurking at every corner.
Players assume the role of Artyom, who keeps going out there day after day, not knowing whether he'll make it back or not.
'There's No One Out There, Artyom'
"The desperate survivors who cling to existence beneath the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow have long given up hope of life returning to the surface... ...except for one," Metro: Exodus teased on Twitter.
"There's no one out there, Artyom, no one to help us, no one to hear us," laments a female voice-over at the beginning of the new trailer. Regardless, Artyom goes out there and walks through the frozen wasteland, among buildings in ruins, looking for something.
It doesn't take long for mutated monsters to appear and start hunting Artyom, forcing him underground where he finds what seems to be an abandoned Metro. Artyom starts looking around and eventually finds a damaged coal-powered train, which he manages to restore. This could play a key role in the game.
Artyom will eventually manage to get out of Moscow and explore new regions in the game and players will also come by other familiar characters from previous installments in the series. The weather patterns in the game will change based on the season and players will have to handle both the weather changes and the unfamiliar settings.
During a Twitch demo session back at E3, producer John Bloch said that Metro: Exodus is the most ambitious installment in the series so far.
The upcoming Metro: Exodus will become available in the fall of 2018 for the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and Windows PC. No specific release date is available at this point, but it's still early.
