Overwatch's Winter Wonderland Event Is Back With A New Yeti Boss Fight Mode

It's that time of the year again, and Blizzard is bringing back the Winter Wonderland event to Overwatch along with the new boss-fight mode Mei's Yeti Hunt.

The folks behind the first-person shooter are putting Mei in the center of the spotlight this holiday once more, but that's not all. Aside from the brawls, legendary skins themed after the yuletide season are also making their way.

Winter Wonderland's Return

Among the things to expect this time around is the decorated version of the Black Forest map, and the Overwatch team is making the best of what they have by including the King's Row and Hanamura maps sprinkled with Christmas décor and snow again.

Same as the Winter Wonderland of 2016, players will get to play Mei's Snowball Offensive again. For the uninitiated, it's the mode that pits two teams of Mei against each other and tasks them with shooting snowballs at the opposing team. What's new here is it's expanding to the Black Forest map too, and a change in scenery is always a nice addition to have.

Now about the skins, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan has confirmed that a ton of them will be up for grabs, including legendary ones and a "long-awaited Hanzo skin" that turned up in one of the Overwatch comics before.

Of course, it's safe to expect some Christmas skins too, kind of like the Santa and his elves theme that the previous Winter Wonderland got going before, one of which (Mei's) Kaplan apologized for because it wasn't "cool" enough.

Last but not least is Mei's Yeti Hunt. Put simply, a team composed of five Meis will be going against a yeti, also known as a powered-up version of Winston. It's touted as a boss-fight kind of deal, but the fun part is, another player will be playing Winston, who might develop recurring nightmares of thousands of Meis shooting at them. It's sort of reminiscent of Evolve minus the devil incarnate that is Mei.

"I know a lot of you are thinking it sounds kinda silly and kinda ridiculous, and well, I'm here to tell you it absolutely is. But the point of some of these seasonal brawls are just to be fun and light and refreshing for a short period of time," Kaplan said.
