Blizzard has rolled out a new Overwatch patch that applies a few changes to Mercy, Lucio, and Zenyatta, though fans of these three heroes will likely have different reactions.
The update comes in the middle of the Overwatch Halloween Terror 2017 event, which features a batch of new skins to collect and the return of the popular horde mode, Junkenstein's Revenge.
'Overwatch' Patch Rolled Out
Blizzard, through the official Overwatch forums on Battle.net, detailed the latest update that was rolled out for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One through its patch notes.
The biggest change comes in a new nerf to Mercy, though it can also be seen as a buff for some players. After the update, activating the new Mercy ultimate, Valkyrie, will no longer reset the cooldown of her revamped Resurrect skill. Instead, activating Valkyrie gives Mercy an extra "charge" of the skill, allowing players to revive one teammate even if it is in cooldown. The charge should be used before Valkyrie ends, however, or else it will disappear.
While the change will allow Mercy to revive two teammates in succession after activating Valkyrie, it will reduce the overall number of times she can use her Resurrect skill, as its cooldown reduction while the ultimate is activated has been removed.
To compensate for the reduced number of times that Resurrect can be used, Mercy received a change to her Guardian Angel skill that allows her to vault beyond the targeted ally by pressing the jump button, for added mobility. Its cooldown also no longer resets when Resurrect is activated.
Lucio, on the other hand, received a significant buff for his Wall Ride passive skill. The speed boost that he receives after completing a wall ride has been increased by 65 percent, bringing back the perks of the skill to where it was before it was slowed down by a recent bug fix.
Lastly, Zenyatta also received changes in the latest Overwatch update, but none of his skills were affected. Instead, he received additional voices for the Cultist Zenyatta skin, which transforms the omnic into Cthulhu.
'Overwatch' Reddit Reactions
The changes applied to Mercy and Lucio, while not game-breaking, are still pretty significant, but a look at the thread discussing the new Overwatch patch reveals that most of the hype is surrounding Cultist Zenyatta's voice lines.
Playing as Cultist Zenyatta with the new voice lines, however, quickly shows why. He says "experience oblivion" when activating his ultimate, with other lines such as "be one with the darkness" and "embrace oblivion" when using other skills.
