The video game industry is a great place, but sometimes it can get really ugly and immature to the point where one has to wonder, what is the point of being a part of this? According to a new report, Frank O'Connor, Halo franchise director, was sent death threats due to the problems facing Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
We've seen these things happening time and time again with no apparent end in sight. Right now we have to wonder if there is no way possible to put a stop to this madness before someone gets hurt.
O'Connor has been a frequent responder on the video game centric forum NeoGAF. However, he explained that he chose to back off from commenting due to the amount of work that is needed to fix the matchmaking issues in Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and also because he has been getting several death threats as of late.
"I am not posting much for a couple of reasons, one, too busy trying to fix. Two, well past a couple of dozen believable (I don't personally believe them, but better safe than sorry) death threats," O'Connor explained his absence.
"Apologies. We'll keep communicating via Halo Waypoint."
At the moment, the game is working well for some, but others are still experiencing issues, and O'Connor is working hard to make sure everyone can enjoy a good game of Halo when the stress hits in.
The problem of gamers sending death threats won't end until the industry takes a stand against this cruel act. Recently, an executive working for Bungie was swatted because Destiny did not turn out the way some had expected. Then there was the time when a Black Ops 2 developer received a string of death threats on Twitter after the team released a patch that tweaked the weapons.
Something needs to be done, and not after a developer loses his or her life. Please.
Measures should be put in place to find whoever is making death threats and allow them to face the full measure of the law. They should be locked up. Then throw away the key into a dungeon somewhere.
