Gandalf and Bard lead the armies of light into battle against the Necromancer's massive horde of darkness, in this new clip from The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
It's always difficult to know exactly what's going on when you see clips out of context like this. Obviously it's taking place during the siege on the Lonely Mountain, but where in the sequence of things it fits is anybody's guess.
What matters is that we get to see a bit of Peter Jackson's epically-staged climactic battle, aka the crowning jewel atop his Middle-Earth crown. Fans of spectacle will be happy to find that it includes loads of Orcs, Elves, Men and several giant Trolls. Those same fans may be surprised to learn that The Battle of the Five Armies turns out to be the shortest of all the Middle-Earth movies, running just two and a half hours.
Early reviews of Five Armies have been mostly positive, so it sounds like we're in for a treat when the movie opens on December 17, 2014.
