PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Hits Another Milestone With 10 Million Copies Sold, And It's Not Slowing Down

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, the massively popular Battle Royale-inspired multiplayer shooter, has reached another milestone with 10 million copies now sold.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds continues to rack up achievements despite still being an unfinished game, and it appears that its growth will not be slowing down any time soon.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Milestones: 10 Million Copies Sold

Through Twitter, Brendan Greene, or better known as PlayerUnknown, revealed that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has sold 10 million copies. The achievement comes just a couple of weeks after Greene said at Gamescom 2017 that the game has sold 8 million copies.

Another recent milestone that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds achieved was also reported a couple of weeks ago. The shooter became the most played game on Steam over a weekend, beating DOTA 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in terms of the number of concurrent players. DOTA 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive are both made by Valve, the creator of Steam, so being able to beat these titles on Steam is a massive feat.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is now outpacing DOTA 2, and it is only likely a matter of time before the game reaches the highest-ever peak player count of nearly 1.3 million users set by DOTA 2 in March.

Making these milestones more impressive is the fact that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds isn't even finished yet. The game is still in Steam's Early Access program, with the PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds full version release date pushed back to the end of the year.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Will Not Slow Down

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds might only currently offer a single level, but it is a game mode that now 10 million gamers want to play. Players are dropped along with 99 others into an island filled with weapons, vehicles, and hiding spots, and the goal is to become the last man standing, similar to Battle Royale and Hunger Games.

To keep matches intense, there is a white circle on the map, and players should remain within the circle at all times or they will be bombed. The circle shrinks as time passes, forcing surviving players into smaller areas. This is the core of the PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds popularity.

With such unique gameplay and tension-filled matches, the growth of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will likely not be slowing down any time soon. In comparison, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has only sold 3.92 million copies from March to July.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is also set to launch for the Xbox One in the fall, which will further increase its player base.
