Android Lollipop has been rolling out for a few weeks and in case you hadn't heard it boasts a number of great new features and design changes.
Many, however, aren't able to see the changes until they upgrade, and many don't yet know if they even want to upgrade. Luckily, there is a way to see what all the hype around Android Lollipop is about before updating, thanks to videos. Here are five that show off what Android 5.0 Lollipop is all about.
1. Material Design
Material design is Google's new design philosophy that includes flatter colors, more animations, and an overall smoother, more polished looking interface. It's a rather drastic change from Android 4.4 KitKat, yet one that most agree is an improvement. The video below shows off material design in slow motion, allowing users to see all those beautiful animations in the operating system.
2. ART Processing
Android Runtime, or ART, is essentially a new way of processing apps. ART was available as a developer option in Android 4.4 KitKat, however it was not fully installed as the default option until Android 5.0 Lollipop. The difference between ART and Dalvik, which is the old way of processing apps, is quite drastic, but it can be a little complicated. Here is a video explaining the differences as well as showing Android 4.4 KitKat users how to use ART if they want to.
3. Notifications
Another rather large improvement in Android 5.0 Lollipop is the way that notifications are handled. Users now have a number of options, from holding the notification to show settings to being able to dismiss all notifications at once. Here is a rundown of the new notifications features in Android 5.0 Lollipop.
4. Battery Life
Android 5.0 Lollipop also has a number of battery-saving features, more so than any prior Android operating systems. Users are able to better control how certain things like data and Wi-Fi are handled to be able to save a lot of battery life. While some users have reported bugs with the operating system that make it drain battery life, these bugs will likely be fixed in the near future. The video below shows how users can tweak their system to make the most of their battery.
5. Quick Settings
Google has made sure Android 5.0 Lollipop is the easiest-to-use Android operating system ever, with a number of improvements on how quick settings are handled. Not only that, but it has also finally added a flashlight button! The video below shows how to make the most of quick settings in Android 5.0 Lollipop.
